Periarticular injection and hamstring block versus placebo for pain control in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: A randomized controlled trial.

Forty-four patients undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) with a hamstring graft were randomized to receive either a periarticular injection for pain (PI; n=22) or a placebo (n=22). The primary outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale at 8 and 24 hours postoperation. Secondary outcomes of interest included the incidence of rescue analgesia, rescue antiemetic use, and complications. Knee pain was significantly lower in the PI group at 8 and 24 hours post-operation. All other outcomes were similar between the two groups.
