Influence of patellar denervation on anterior knee pain and knee function following total knee replacement: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

A meta-analysis of 13 trials and 1895 patients comparing patellar denervation to no denervation during total knee arthroplasty was performed. The primary outcomes of interest was the incidence of anterior knee pain. Secondary outcomes of interest were the American Knee Society Function Score, range of motion, patellar feller score, Oxford Knee score (OKS) and complications. The patellar denervation group demonstrated a significantly reduced incidence of anterior knee pain at all time points. No differences in other outcomes were noted.
