Does a single dose of palonosetron have any role in preventing acute chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting in pediatric osteosarcoma patients without dexamethasone? A randomized clinical trial

200 pediatric osteosarcoma patients were randomized to receive a single intravenous dose of palonosetron or granisetron for antiemetic prophylaxis. The primary outcome was patient response to treatment in the first 24 hours after chemotherapy (complete response; partial response; failure). Adverse events were also recorded. Results found that patients who received palonosetron had a significantly greater treatment response vs. patients who received granisetron. No serious treatment-related adverse events were reported.
