Outside-in technique versus inside-out semitendinosus graft harvest technique in ACLR: a randomised control trial

72 patients scheduled for an arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament repair were randomized to receive semitendinosus graft harvesting using an inside-out technique (n=37) or an outside-in technique (n=35). The outcomes of interest included the incidence of area of paresthesia, the incidence of nerve injury, and adverse events, measured up to 12 months post-operation. Results revealed no significant differences between the two groups in the incidence of paresthesia or nerve injury. The area of paresthesia was significantly larger in the inside-out group at 6 months, but was not significantly different between groups at 12 months despite being twice as large in the inside-out group. The length of skin incision and harvesting time was significantly longer in the outside-in group.
