Can It Wait Until Morning? A Meta-Analysis of the Six-Hour Rule of Open Fracture Management
16 studies (6 prospective and 10 retrospective cohort studies) (3906 open fractures) that assessed the relationship between time to operative debridement of open fractures and infections were identified. The results of this meta-analysis indicated that there was no significant difference in infection rates between open fractures that underwent early or late operative debridement (definition was not provided for early or late debridement).
