Comparison of non-surgical treatments for greater trochanteric pain syndrome: a living systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomised studies

Nineteen randomized controlled trials including 1572 patients with greater trochanteric pain syndrome were included in this systematic review and network meta-analysis comparing various treatments such as sham exercise, gluteal tendon loading, PRP injection, and corticosteroid injection. Pooled outcomes of interest included pain, function, and complications. The results indicated that sham exercise and gluteal tendon loading showed similar effectiveness for short- and mid-term function, while PRP and corticosteroid injections were equally effective for short-term function. PRP injections ranked highest for short-term and mid-term pain relief. These findings suggest PRP is a promising treatment for GTPS, but further high-quality research is needed to confirm its superiority.
