研究概要

Two hundred patients undergoing shoulder or knee arthroscopy were randomized to receive an opioid-sparing pain management protocol (n=100) or the standard-of-care pain management protocol (n=100). The primary outcome of interest was postoperative opioid consumption in oral morphine equivalents. Secondary outcomes of interest included pain, patient satisfaction, opioid prescription/refill, and the rate of adverse events. The results demonstrated that the opioid-sparing pain management protocol significantly reduced opioid consumption and prescription, as well as the rate of medication-related adverse events, whilst providing comparable levels of pain control and patient satisfaction up to 6 weeks post-operation vs. standard-of-care.
