Skin closure after total hip replacement: A randomized controlled trial of skin adhesive versus surgical staples

90 patients undergoing total hip replacement (THR) were randomized to skin closure with either staples or skin adhesives. The purpose of this study was to assess cosmetic outcomes of these two closure methods. The results from this study indicated that both closure methods provided similar results in terms of cosmetic appearance at three months. There were also no statistical differences between the occurrence of wound complications and patient satisfaction. However, it should be noted that surgical staples were cheaper and required less intra-operative time.
