OE Journal. 2013;1(3):35 Osteoarthritis Cartilage. 2008 Jul;16(7):823-8. Epub 2008 Feb 21.113 women with primary knee OA, following instructions to perform regular quadriceps exercise, were randomized to receive additional shortwave diathermy (SWD) or sham treatment, in order to evaluate the effectiveness of SWD. Following assessments over a 3 week period, results exhibited that the addition of SWD to an exercise program for knee OA in peri-/post-menopausal women offered no additional clinical advantage to the exercise program alone.
