Efficacy of non-surgical interventions on dynamic balance in patients with ankle instability: A network meta-analysis

19 randomized controlled trials were included in this network meta-analysis which sought to quantify the effects of various nonoperative modalities and control for treatment of chronic ankle instability. When compared to control, approaches which demonstrated a significant effect size on the star-excursion balance test when assessed post-treatment included balance training plus strength training, balance training plus mobilization, strength training alone, balance training alone, and manual therapy. In addition, combined balance training and strength training demonstrated a significant effect size on the star-excursion balance test compared to all other treatment approaches.
