Effects of muscle specific as compared to movement specific muscle energy technique in mechanical neck pain: A randomized controlled trial.

66 patients with mechanical neck pain were randomized to receive either muscle-specific muscle energy techniques (MET) (n=33) or movement-specific MET (n=33). The primary outcome of interest was the Neck Disability Index (NDI). Secondary outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and range of motion in flexion, extension, right and left rotation, and right and left lateral flexion. All outcomes were comparable after the 1st and 5th treatment sessions. Both muscle-specific and movement-specific MET can be used to improve mechanical neck pain.
