Adding motor control training to muscle strengthening did not substantially improve the effects on clinical or kinematic outcomes in women with patellofemoral pain: A randomised controlled trial

Gait Posture. 2017 Oct;58:280-286

34 women, 18-30 years of age, with patellofemoral pain were randomized to a standard 4-week program of trunk, hip, and knee strengthening exercises with or without the addition of movement control training. Participants were assessed for pain and function at post-intervention and 3- and 6-month follow-up, as well as muscle strength and kinematics at post-intervention. Results demonstrated no significant between-group differences for the improvement from baseline in any outcome measure, with the exception of a small improvement in AKPS scores at 3 months with the addition of movement control training.
