Efficacy and safety of home-based exercises versus individualized supervised outpatient physical therapy programs after total knee arthroplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Knee Surg Sports Traumatol Arthrosc. 2017 Nov;25(11):3340-3353Eleven randomized clinical trials were selected for this meta-analysis comparing functional outcome between home-based physical therapy programs and supervised outpatient physical therapy programs. Data on knee range of motion and patient-reported functional measures were pooled at 3, 6 and 12 months after surgery. Results demonstrated no significant differences between groups in any analysis. Subgroup analyses based on the presence/absence of co-interventions did not significantly affect primary effect size estimates. There was significant heterogeneity observed in a number of the meta-analyses.
