Functional and radiological outcome after total knee replacement performed with mini-midvastus or conventional arthrotomy: Controlled randomised trial
Int Orthop. 2009 Oct;33(5):1233-7. Epub 2008 Jul 25.70 patients with osteoarthritis, scheduled to receive a total knee replacement (TKR), were randomized to either a minimally invasive procedure, the mini-midvastus approach (MMV), or the standard approach, medial parapatellar arthrotomy. The 12 week results, designed to compare clinical and radiological outcomes of both procedures, indicated that MMV provided quicker healing and improved function, 6 weeks postoperatively.
