Medial-Pivot vs. Posterior-Stabilized Implant Designs in TKA for Symptomatic Knee Osteoarthritis .
A Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing Medial-Pivot versus Posterior-Stabilized Total Knee Arthroplasty
J Arthroplasty. 2021 May;36(5): 1584-1589.Ninety patients with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis scheduled for a primary total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive a medial-pivot implant (n=45) or a posterior-stabilized implant (n=45). The primary outcome of interest was knee range of motion. Secondary outcomes of interest included the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities (WOMAC) Osteoarthritis Index, the Oxford Knee Score (OKS), Knee Society Score (KSS) clinical and functional scores, post-operative radiographic alignment data, and the incidence of adverse events. Functional outcomes were assessed at 1 and 2 years post-operation. The results of this study demonstrated no significant differences between the two groups in all outcomes, at all time-points (p>0.05 for all).
