Biodegradable magnesium-based screw clinically equivalent to titanium screw in hallux valgus surgery: short term results of the first prospective, randomized, controlled clinical pilot study
Biomed Eng Online. 2013 Jul 3;12:62. doi: 10.1186/1475-925X-12-6226 patients with hallux valgus and undergoing chevron osteotomy were randomized to be treated with either standard titanium, nondegradable compression screws, or with a magnesium-based degradable compression screws. The purpose was to determine and compare the clinical and radiographic outcomes of the newly developed MAGNEZIX screw. The outcomes after 6 months indicated that there were no significant differences between the screws, and that both demonstrated good to excellent results.
