Biodegradable magnesium-based screw clinically equivalent to titanium screw in hallux valgus surgery: short term results of the first prospective, randomized, controlled clinical pilot study

26 patients with hallux valgus and undergoing chevron osteotomy were randomized to be treated with either standard titanium, nondegradable compression screws, or with a magnesium-based degradable compression screws. The purpose was to determine and compare the clinical and radiographic outcomes of the newly developed MAGNEZIX screw. The outcomes after 6 months indicated that there were no significant differences between the screws, and that both demonstrated good to excellent results.
