These preliminary findings were presented given the lack of LSD research being completed during this time due to prohibitions. The exploratory findings will prompt further studies with more objective and standardized techniques to measure social behavioural changes. The results are limited by the small sample size, the lack of random dose administration and the lack of a suitable test for statistical significance of the findings.

Sixteen subjects who were either prison inmates, alcoholics or chronic schizophrenics underwent a study to examine the effects of LSD-25 on social behaviours, measured by the Bales Interaction Process Analysis technique. Subjects were organized into four groups of four, with an inmate group, two groups of alcoholics and a group of schizophrenics. Various doses of LSD were given. Total interaction increased at lower doses and decreased at higher doses. The effects observed depended on the group, with increased negative social-emotional behaviours in the inmates, increased positive behaviours in the alcoholic groups and an increase in both behaviours in the schizophrenics group.
