Study Summary
Forty healthy subjects underwent a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind crossover study to test the acute effects of LSD on emotional processing. Subjects were divided into two groups where they received either 100 or 200 micrograms LSD and then completed the Face Emotion Recognition Task (FERT) and the Multifaceted Empathy Test (MET). LSD impaired the recognition of sad and fearful faces, produced feelings of happiness, trust, closeness to others, and enhanced explicit and implicit emotional empathy. LSD increased prosocial behaviour.
