Outcome After Distal Metatarsal Osteotomy for Hallux Valgus: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial of Two Methods
Foot Ankle Int. 2007 Jul;28(7):778-87100 patients with hallux valgus were randomized to either receive a Lindgren osteomy or a Chevron osteotomy. The results at 4.7 years (mean follow up period) indicated that, with respect to clinical outcomes, there were no differences observed between treatment groups. However, improvement in correction was observed in those treated with the Lindgren osteotomy. A loss of correction was seen in both groups at the mean follow up of 4.7 years. It is important to note that for those patients with a HVA greater than 30 degrees and an IMA of more than 15 degrees, neither of these two osteotomies may be appropriate.
