Lateral augmentation reconstruction system versus modified Brostrom-Gould procedure: A meta-analysis of RCTs

Four randomized controlled trials containing a total of 209 patients with chronic ankle instability were included in this meta-analysis comparing the modified Brostrum-Gould procedure (n=106) to a lateral ligament augmentation system (n=103). Pooled outcomes of interest included the Foot and Ankle Outcomes total score and associated sub-scores (i.e., pain, symptoms, activities of daily living, sport, quality of life), the Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAS) total score and associated sub-scores (i.e., daily activity, sporting activity), talar tilt angle, anterior talar translation, and the incidence of infection, recurrence and irritation. The follow-up periods in the included studies ranged from 2-5 years post-operation. Results of the meta-analysis revealed no significant differences in all pooled outcomes between the two groups (p>0.05 for all).
