Comparison of kinesio taping, trigger point injection, and neural therapy in the treatment of acute myofascial pain syndrome: A randomized controlled study.

It is important for clinicians to keep in mind that when treating acute myofascial pain syndrome, kinesio taping, trigger point injection, and neural therapy are equally effective treatment options. However, when it coes to improving pressure pain threshold, trigger point injection and neural therapy may be more effective. Nevertheless, it is important to note the short follow-up period and the need for additional research to evaluate the long-term efficacy of these treatments.

One hundred and four patients with acute myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) in the cervical region were randomized to receive kinesio taping (KT; n=35), trigger point injection with local anaesthetic (n=35), or neural therapy with lidocaine (n=34). The primary outcome of interest was pain severity measured by the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Secondary outcomes included pressure pain threshold (PPT) and disability, which was assessed by the Neck Pain Disability Scale. Outcomes were evaluated before treatment, at the end of the 3rd day and at the end of the 7th day post-treatment. Overall, the study found that kinesio taping, trigger point injection, and neural therapy are equally effective treatment options when treating acute myofascial pain syndrome.
