One hundred and four patients with acute myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) in the cervical region were randomized to receive kinesio taping (KT; n=35), trigger point injection with local anaesthetic (n=35), or neural therapy with lidocaine (n=34). The primary outcome of interest was pain severity measured by the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Secondary outcomes included pressure pain threshold (PPT) and disability, which was assessed by the Neck Pain Disability Scale. Outcomes were evaluated before treatment, at the end of the 3rd day and at the end of the 7th day post-treatment. Overall, the study found that kinesio taping, trigger point injection, and neural therapy are equally effective treatment options when treating acute myofascial pain syndrome.
