2017 ISAKOS Congress : Effectiveness of ultrasound-guided platelet-rich plasma injection in conservative treatment of symptomatic partial supraspinatus tear

44 patients with a small (<1.0cm), partial-thickness, interstitial tear of the supraspinatus tendon were allocated to a standardized physical therapy program and randomized to treatment with or without the addition of three platelet rich plasma injections. Patients were followed-up at 3 and 6 months on the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index. At 6 months, SPADI scores were significantly lower in the PRP group compared to the control group. No treatment-related adverse events were recorded in either group.
