Comparison Between Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy vs Acetaminophen in the Treatment of Primary Knee Osteoarthritis
49 patients with primary knee osteoarthritis were randomized to receive treatment of either acetaminophen or platelet-rich plasma (PRP), to assess and compare the clinical outcomes resulting from the two treatments. The concentration of IL-1ra in the platelet-rich-plasma group was also evaluated. The study found that patients in the platelet-rich plasma group displayed significantly less pain, and better function. In addition, patients in this group had levels of IL-1ra sufficient to inhibit IL-1B activity.
