Sodium Hyaluronate in the Treatment of Hallux Rigidus. A Single-Blind, Randomized Study

OE Journal. 2013;1(11):120 Foot Ankle Int. 2007 Jan;28(1):38-42.37 patients (40 feet) with painful hallux rigidus were enrolled in this study and randomized to receive either a 1.0 ml intra-articular injection of sodium hyaluronate or 1.0 ml of triamcinolone acetonide. Patients were evaluated using VAS and AOFAS-hallux scores on days 0, 14, 28, 56 and 84 with a 3 month follow-up. Results demonstrated that the use of sodium hyaluronate was a safe and effective treatment in managing pain associated with hallux ridigus.
