Improved hip function with THR versus hemiarthroplasty for femoral neck fracture .
A randomised controlled trial comparing bipolar hemiarthroplasty with total hip replacement for displaced intracapsular fractures of the femoral neck in elderly patients
J Bone Joint Surg Br. 2007 Feb;89(2):160-5.120 patients with an acute displaced intracapsular fracture of the femoral neck were randomized to either receive a total hip replacement or hemiarthroplasty, to compare improvements in function between these procedures. The results at both the 4 and 12 month follow up periods indicated that hip function was greatly improved in those patients who underwent a THR, when compared to a hemiarthroplasty. Incidence of hip complications were similar between groups.
