J Bodyw Mov Ther. 2025 01-Dec;():. 10.1016/j.jbmt.2025.09.006Study Summary
Eighty patients undergoing total knee replacement for knee osteoarthritis were randomized to receive either a home-based exercise program or clinic-based physiotherapy. The primary outcome of interest was functional mobility assessed using the Lysholm Knee Scale. Demographic and clinical characteristics were also collected, including age, BMI, sex, side of surgery, and diabetes status. Outcomes were assessed before surgery and after a four-week rehabilitation program. Overall, the results of the study revealed that both groups experienced significant improvements in functional mobility following rehabilitation, with no significant difference between home-based exercise and clinic-based physiotherapy. These findings suggest that structured home-based rehabilitation may provide comparable short-term mobility outcomes to clinic-based physiotherapy after total knee replacement.
