J Orthop. 2026 01-Mar;():. 10.1016/j.jor.2026.03.015Study Summary
16 randomized controlled trials including 881 patients with articular and periarticular fractures were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing 3D-assisted surgery vs conventional surgical techniques. Pooled outcomes of interest included operative time, intraoperative blood loss, fluoroscopy duration, and postoperative complications. Meta-analysis demonstrated that 3D-assisted surgery significantly reduced operative time, blood loss, and fluoroscopy exposure across multiple anatomical regions, including the tibial plateau, ankle, calcaneus, elbow, and wrist, while complication rates remained comparable between groups. These findings suggest that 3D technology improves surgical efficiency and perioperative performance without compromising patient safety.
