SHOULDER & ELBOW
Image-Derived Instrumentation with 3D Planning for Glenoid Component Placement in Reverse TSA .

Image-derived instrumentation vs. conventional instrumentation with 3D planning for glenoid component placement in reverse total shoulder replacements: a randomized controlled trial.

JSES Int. 2023 Apr 7;7(4):614-622.

57 patients scheduled for a reverse total shoulder arthroplasty were randomized to receive glenoid component placement with 3D-planning and image-derived instrumentation (IDI; n=31) or 3D-planning only (non-IDI; n=26). The outcomes of interest included the Constant-Murley score, the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, the Oxford Shoulder Score (OSS), radiological outcomes, and complications. Patients were followed up for 2 years. The results of this study found that while glenoid placement within 2mm of the planned position was greater in the IDI group, and the degree of error was significantly lower in cases of high natural retroversion (>10deg), this did not translate into meaningful differences in all patient-reported outcomes.
