OE Journal. 2016;4(1):25 Ann Rheum Dis. 2004 Dec;63(12):1611-7301 patients, over 50 years of age, with knee osteoarthritis, were randomized to receive either oral diacerein treatment (100mg/day) and 3 courses of intra-articular saline injections, oral placebo (100mg/day) and 3 courses of intra-articular saline injections, or oral placebo (100mg/day) and 3 courses of intra-articular hyaluronic acid injections (NRD101). The purpose of the study was to compare the 1-year symptomatic and structural efficacy and safety of hyaluronic acid injections compared to oral diacerein treatment and a placebo. The results indicated no significant differences in safety or symptomatic outcomes up to 1 year between groups, and no significant differences were noted in structural parameters either.
