The role of a cryocompression device following total knee arthroplasty to assist in recovery: a randomised controlled trial.

72 patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty for knee osteoarthritis were randomized to receive either the Game Ready (GR) cryocompression device (n=36) or standard ice and compression therapy (n=36). Outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), opioid consumption, range of motion in extension and flexion, length of stay, limb circumference, Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire (PSQ), Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Score (KOOS) pain, symptoms, and quality of life, and the incidence of adverse events. Range of motion in extension on postoperative day one and after 2 weeks was significantly better in the standard of care group. All other outcomes at all time points were similar between the two groups.
