Gabapentin does not improve multimodal analgesia outcomes for total knee arthroplasty: a randomized controlled trial

101 total knee arthroplasty patients were randomized to evaluate gabapentin’s efficacy in reducing pain and morphine consumption. They were allocated to receive gabapentin 600 mg preoperatively followed by 200 mg every eight hours for two days or to the same regimen of placebo treatment. Evaluation after the 72-hour study period demonstrated no differences between the two treatment groups in postoperative morphine consumption, pain scores, patient satisfaction, or length of hospital stay.
