Indian J Orthop. 2026 01-Feb;():. 10.1007/s43465-025-01593-1Study Summary
6 studies including 688 adult patients with midshaft clavicle fractures were included in this meta-analysis comparing figure-of-eight bandage (F8B) vs arm sling immobilization. Pooled outcomes of interest included visual analogue scale (VAS) pain scores, Constant–Murley score, healing time, clavicle shortening, nonunion, patient dissatisfaction, and complication rates. Pain scores and healing time were comparable between groups, while F8B demonstrated statistically significant but clinically marginal improvements in Constant–Murley scores and clavicle shortening. Additionally, pooled complication rates favoured F8B, although nonunion and dissatisfaction rates were not significantly different. These findings suggest that while F8B may provide modest radiographic and functional advantages, current evidence does not support routine use over arm slings for conservative management of midshaft clavicle fractures.
