Comparison of fascia iliaca block with quadratus lumborum block for hip arthroplasty: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Four studies including 234 patients undergoing hip arthroplasty were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing fascia iliaca block (FIB) vs. quadratus lumborum block (QLB). Pooled outcomes of interest included pain scores at 2, 12, and 24 hours, time to first rescue analgesia, total analgesic consumption, and rates of nausea and vomiting. The pooled results showed that FIB significantly reduced pain scores at 2 hours and 12 hours compared to QLB. However, there was no difference in pain scores at 24 hours or secondary outcomes. These findings suggest that FIB may be more effective for immediate postoperative pain relief but shows no advantage in long-term outcomes.
