Does Far Cortical Locking Improve Fracture Healing in Distal Femur Fractures: A Randomised, Controlled, Prospective Multicentre Study.

28 elderly patients with acute distal femur fractures or periprosthetic fractures of the hip or knee were randomized to receive either far cortical locking (FCL; n=16) or standard locking plate fixation (LPF; n=12). Outcomes of interest included the radiographic union scale (RUS) and time to union. RUS scores at 3 and 6 months were similar between the two groups, whereas time to union was significantly shorter in the LPF group.
