17,465 persons who experienced a holiday decorating fall injury during the 2000-2003 holiday seasons were included in retrospective study. Approximately 5,800 fall injuries due to holiday decorating occur every holiday season with persons aged 20-49 making up the majority of injuries (62%), followed by persons >49 years (24%) and persons aged 0-19 (15%). Males suffered more injuries (58% vs. 42%) and were at greater risk of sustaining injury from ladders and roofs. 46% of injuries occurred to the extremities (arm/hand/leg/foot), and 12% of injuries required hospitalization. Of those who sustained fractures from ladders, 47% required hospitalization.
