Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy Combined With Oral Medication and Exercise for Chronic Low Back Pain: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
Arch Phys Med Rehabil . 2021 Jul;102(7):1294-1299.Thirty six patients with chronic low back pain were randomized to receive extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) with an oral medication regime and exercise (n=17) or a sham procedure with oral medication and exercise (n=15). The outcomes of interest were pain scores measured by the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and function as measured by the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). Both groups had significant reductions in pain and disability from baseline at 1 and 3 months follow-up. At 1 month follow-up, ODI scores were significantly improved in the ESWT group compared to the sham group. No other significant differences were noted between groups.
