Efficacy of extracorporeal shockwave therapy for knee osteoarthritis: a randomized controlled trial
J Surg Res. 2013 Dec;185(2):661-6. doi: 10.1016/j.jss.2013.07.004. Epub 2013 Jul 3070 patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) were randomized to investigate the effect of extracorporeal shockwave therapy on pain and function associated with OA. Participants were allocated to receive 4 weekly administrations of either ESWT or placebo treatment, and were followed-up up at 12 weeks. The results indicated that the ESWT group experienced significantly greater improvements in pain and function, and had better perception of OA severity at 12 weeks.
