70 patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) were randomized to investigate the effect of extracorporeal shockwave therapy on pain and function associated with OA. Participants were allocated to receive 4 weekly administrations of either ESWT or placebo treatment, and were followed-up up at 12 weeks. The results indicated that the ESWT group experienced significantly greater improvements in pain and function, and had better perception of OA severity at 12 weeks.
