Application of Doctor-Nurse-Patient Co-Decision-Making Nursing Intervention Based on Evidence-Based Problems in the Rehabilitation of Acute Ankle Lateral Collateral Ligament Injury

One hundred and fifty patients with acute lateral collateral ligament injuries were randomized to receive 1 month of rehabilitation via an evidence-based, doctor-nurse-patient co-decision-making plan (n=75) or a standard nursing rehabilitation (n=75). Outcomes of interest included recovery time (swelling elimination; time to hardware removal; time to normal walking), range of motion, ankle function, and the incidence of adverse events, measured after completion of treatment. Results revealed significantly quicker recovery time, ankle range of motion and function, and a lower incidence of adverse events in the evidence-based group.
