Evaluation of treatment options for unstable extra-articular distal radial fractures .
Should unstable extra-articular distal radial fractures be treated with fixed-angle volar-locked plates or percutaneous Kirschner wires? A prospective randomised controlled trial
Injury. 2011 Feb;42(2):162-6.56 patients with closed, unilateral, dorsally displaced, unstable extra-articular distal radius fractures were randomized in to a group receiving treatment with either a volar locking plate fixation or percutaneous wire fixation (K-wire fixation). The results from this study indicated that volar locking plate fixation produced better reductions, determined through radiological assessment. The volar locking plate fixation also produced better functional outcomes in Gartland and Werley and DASH scores when compared to K-wire fixation.
