Electroacupuncture for Spinal Cord Injury: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomised Controlled Trials

A meta-analysis of 10 randomized controlled trials and 712 patients compared the effect of electroacupuncture (n=357) to control interventions (n=355) in patients with spinal cord injuries. The outcomes of interest were the functional independence measure (FIM), the Barthel Index (BI) of activities of daily living, and the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) impairment scale for spinal cord injury patients. The electroacupuncture group demonstrated significant improvements over the control group for all outcomes of interest.
