2014 15th EFORT Congress: Peri-articular injection of tranexamic acid in reducing postoperative blood loss in total knee arthroplasty: Does it work? A randomized controlled trial

OE Journal. 2014;2(12):2060 patients scheduled for total knee arthroplasty were randomized to tranexamic acid (750mg) administration either through peri-articular injections or intravenous injection. The purpose of this study was to compare visible postoperative blood loss, hemoglobin drop, transfusion incidence, and the rate of venous thromboembolic (VTE) complications. Hemostatic outcomes were measured at 48 hours postoperatively, and symptomatic VTE was monitored up to 1 month postoperatively. Results demonstrated no significant difference between groups for any of the outcome parameters.
