Forty patients with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis were randomized to receive either high-intensity laser therapy (HILT) (n=20) or sham laser therapy (n=20). Both groups also participated in a supervised home exercise program. The primary outcome was pain intensity measured by the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Secondary outcomes included the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) and the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test. Outcomes were assessed at baseline, 3 weeks, and 6 weeks. Overall, the results of the study revealed significant within-group improvements in pain and WOMAC scores in both groups, but no significant differences between groups. These findings suggest that the addition of HILT to exercise did not provide superior benefits over exercise alone.
