Effectiveness of hospital clowns for symptom management in paediatrics: systematic review of randomised and non-randomised controlled trials
BMJ. 2020 Dec 16;371: m4290.1612 children and adolescents admitted to hospital for acute or chronic condition, across 24 randomized and non-randomized controlled trials, were included in this systematic review assessing the effectiveness of hospital clowns for symptom management vs. standard of care. Hospital clowns were found to significantly reduce anxiety, stress, and fatigue whilst improving pain and psychological adjustment in hospital.
