The short-term efficacy of mud therapy for knee osteoarthritis: A meta-analysis.
Medicine (Baltimore). 2020 Apr;99(17):e19761.Eleven randomized controlled trials with 1106 patients diagnosed with knee OA were included in this meta-analysis comparing mud therapy treatment (n=565) to control (n=541). Outcomes of interest included pain evaluated using a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC). Furthermore, stiffness and function were also evaluated using the WOMAC sub-scores. The pooled results demonstrated that all outcomes were statistically significantly in favour of the mud therapy group (p<0.05 for all).
