Use of anatomic measurement to guide injection of botulinum toxin for the management of chronic lateral epicondylitis: a randomized controlled trial

CMAJ. 2010 May 18;182(8):768-73. Epub 2010 Apr 26

48 patients with chronic refractory lateral epicondylitis, who had completed a course of physiotherapy and/or received corticosteroid injections, were randomized to receive placebo or botulinum toxin A at the distance of one-third the length of the forearm from the tip of the lateral epicondyle on the course of the posterior inter-osseus nerve. At the study end point of 16 weeks, injecting botulinum toxin was found to reduce the intensity of pain at rest and during maximum pinch.
