Effect of medium with moderate temperature on patient's body temperature during percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy

One hundred and ten patients undergoing intervertebral foramen surgery were randomized to either receive heated saline for irrigation (n=55) or saline at room temperature (n=55). Outcomes that were measured were core body temperature, pain scores using a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and inflammatory cytokines. Significant differences were noted in pain scores 6 hours after the surgery as well as at all time points when considering inflammatory cytokines with better outcomes in the observation group.
