Twenty-four randomized controlled trials including patients with sacroiliac joint dysfunction (SIJD) were included in this systematic review (with 16 studies included in the meta-analysis) comparing various physiotherapy interventions such as muscle energy technique, mobilization, exercises, and taping. Pooled outcomes of interest included pain intensity measured by the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and disability measured by the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). The pooled analysis demonstrated significant improvements in pain with muscle energy technique, mobilization, and exercise interventions, while taping did not show significant effects on pain. Additionally, exercise interventions significantly improved disability outcomes, whereas MET and mobilization did not significantly improve disability. Overall, the findings suggest that physiotherapy interventions are effective for reducing pain and improving functional ability in patients with SIJD, with exercise and muscle energy techniques showing particularly beneficial effects.
