Multigenerational and lifelong use of peyote is not associated with abnormalities in lymphocyte chromosomes.
Study Summary
Fifty-seven Huichol with lifelong ingestion of peyote were compared with fifty Huichol controls and ten laboratory controls for effects of peyote ingestion on lymphocyte chromosomes. The frequency of chromosomal abnormalities did not differ significantly. The results indicate that multigenerational ingestion of peyote is not associated with abnormalities in lymphocyte chromosomes.
